As I start off with this blog and plan out how to inspire you all, I can only think about the TLC lyrics to “Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls. Not to mention today, May 27th is one of the late member of the group, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez’s birthday. The song is playing over and over in my mind. So, before you go any further with me…I would like for us all to reflect and just listen deeply to the song as we read further. If you are like me, I need quiet to do almost anything so, I do not want to pressure you into reading and listening and listening and reading. That, in fact, would be immense torture to someone like me.

I like to examine things in tranquility. We can first start off with the title. I, on the other hand, am going to first ignore the fact that for the majority of my childhood, I thought they said “Go Go chasing waterfalls” and know they are saying “Don’t Go ChasingWaterfalls”! Please forgive me culture! It’s DDon’tGo Chasing Waterfalls to all the 90s babies like me who were just 5 years of age when the song dropped in the 90s. Either way, it was our song and it was a very catchy hook and kind of sad. Nonetheless, the Crazy, Sexy, Cool bounce was ours too. Back to the topic..the chorus is very important to my life currently.
Don’t go Chasing Waterfalls.
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes
that you’re used to
I know that you’re gonna have it your way
or nothing at all
But I think you’re moving too fast
In my life currently, I am preparing for a big career shift. Being the creative I am, my mind paces so often with ideas and changes, I just want to accomplish all of my plans by an hour ago. Get it? An hour ago is just not possible, but even if I had that power the chorus of this song tells of a different direction and focus. Verse 6 of the song’s chorus is clearly stating to me, SLOW DOWN. If you can see it in all caps then, that is probably the advice you may need in your life as well. Rather it be spiritual, relationship or career. The chorus is stating that I should stick with conquering one goal at a time and not be all over the place causing unnecessary stress to my rightful process of success. I do consider myself a perfectionist and it is hard not trying to conquer it all, but having a planner, a calendar, a notebook, a journal..it has all reminded me of where I need to be at this point in time of my life.
I would like to hear back from you guys. What about your waterfalls? What about your rivers and lakes? Success in conquering our dreams is what is most important, I would love to hear your story.
